Batteries

If your car has difficulty starting it may be time to change the battery – our fully trained technicians will also check your alternator to ensure that there are no charging faults causing your battery to fail.

Windscreen wipers

If your windscreen wipers are not clearing the screen its likely that your windscreen wipers are in need of replacement, do please give Fox Garage a call and bring your car down to have the wipers changed whilst you wait.

Bulbs and Headlamp Assemblies

Fault Investigation

If youre experiencing faults with your vehicle which cause the engine management light or emissions light to appear on your dash board Fox Garage Services has the latest diagnostic equipment and software to investigate these faults, simply book in for an hours investigation. We charge £72.00 for the initial investigation, upon finding the cause of the fault, we are then able to quote for a repair. If you accept our quote we may able to reduce the initial investigation fee.

If you book your car in for any of these services we will conduct a thorough vehicle condition report on your vehicle free of charge, so you can take your car away with total piece of mind that it is safe for the road.

Your car grips the road with just a few millimetres of rubber, so it is important to know that your vehicle is fitted with safe tyres for greater peace of mind and safety on the road.

Our fully qualified technicians will inspect your tyres as part of a service check and asses the condition, tread depth and air pressure. We will also adjust your tyre pressures to the correct spec, report any tyres considered worn or dangerous, and provide you with a quote for replacement.

Regular tyre pressure checks will help prolong the life of your vehicle’s tyres. Under-inflation is one of the main causes of uneven premature wear on your vehicles tyres. It only takes five minutes and a check once or twice a month should be enough.

The minimum legal limit in the UK for the tyre tread depth is 1.6mm, however most tyre manufacturers recommend that you replace a tyre that has reached 3mm or below, due to the dramatic increase in stopping distances under this thickness of tread. Tyres that are illegal carry a fine of £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre, so having your vehicle serviced on a regular basis will help ensure your safety as well as avoid points and fines.

Why Should I Recharge My Air Con System?

A vehicle’s air conditioning system offers many benefits to the driver throughout the year. Aside from keeping you cool, fresh and comfortable during the warm summer months, it can also be used to help you defrost your windows in the winter. However, each year, your car’s air conditioning system loses charge, making the system less efficient and, as a result, making your vehicle feel warmer, so it’s important that you make an effort to maintain your car’s air con system.

When Should I Arrange My Air Con Recharge Service?

To ensure it keeps running efficiently, many vehicle manufacturers recommend that a driver opts for a car air conditioning refill and recharge approximately every two years. You may be able to tell if your air con needs recharging if it only blows out warm air, or if it works intermittently. What is our Air Con Service?

If your air conditioning system is operating correctly but produces a mouldy or damp smell then your vehicle requires an air conditioning service which includes an anti-bacterial treatment, a change of pollen filter and a system inspection and recharge. This will kill off the bacteria building up within you air conditioning system and freshen your vehicle. We offer an Air-Con cleaner service, or debug, to decontaminate the system and kill the bacteria within. The process involves one of our trained experts setting off a cleaning spray or ‘bomb’ in the vehicle cabin which is sucked into the air vents and kills off the unwanted bacteria within, leaving you with a long lasting fresh AC smell, and a clean, bacteria free, system throughout. Your car or van has a cambelt (or timing chain), over time the cambelt degrades and wears and as such should be replaced at the manufacturers advised intervals (usually in so many miles or years) to avoid engine failure.

What is the MOT test

The MOT test is a mandatory examination to make sure your vehicle meets the minimum standards to be allowed on the road. The Vehicle and Operating Services Agency (VOSA) are responsible for setting these standards and monitoring both the MOT testing station and the MOT tester. You’ll need an MOT check once a year. You are allowed to have your MOT test carried out and post-dated up to one calendar month in advance of the due date. When booking your MOT do bear in mind that the standards are a minimum requirement to allow the vehicle on the road and should not be used as a substitute for a scheduled service which comprises a much more comprehensive examination of your vehicle’s operating systems, does your car also need a service?

After 3 Years

Once your vehicle has reached three years of age it will require a MOT test every 12 months. It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle has an up to date MOT certificate. It is a legal requirement for your vehicle to be used on the road to have a valid MOT certificate. Without a valid MOT certificate you will not be able to renew your tax disc, and you may not be covered by your insurance company.
